The Guardian University Guide 2022 ranked us, 1st in the North West and 2nd in the UK to study Fashion & Textiles. At UCLan our students become part of the UCLan Fashion & Textiles family, where we foster an inclusive, fun and creative working environment.


We celebrate the innovative way our students approach their work by continuously supporting their artistic expression from day one, all students have access to state-of-the-art facilities, expert staff and specialist technician support. Our specialist programmes prepare our students to enter the creative industries fully equip to thrive within their chosen arena. 


Students who study with us broaden our already stellar reputation by foraging their own creative network, winning national and international competitions, through securing notable employment upon graduating and gaining press coverage. We have strong industry ties embedding this into our teaching practice and are a member of the British Fashion Council.

BA (HONS) FASHION DESIGN

Fashion Design at UCLan is a highly creative and challenging course where students are well supported by our expert staff team. Our students are the future of fashion, embracing innovative methods and championing sustainability, we are proud of the way we embed new technologies into their practices. Through our course design we encourage students to play to their strengths and develop diverse core skills within the flexibility of conceptual, commercial, and entrepreneurial disciplines while developing their own signature style. We empower our students with a strong technical base and skills with innovative textile and pattern cutting techniques required of industry practitioners, which allows them to be more creative utilising unconventional approaches to 3-D design and garment realisation as they create their final collections. Our students are well placed to enter the ever-evolving fashion industry.


BA (HONS) FASHION PROMOTION & MARKETING

Our Fashion Promotion and Marketing course was one of the first promotion courses to be established in the UK over 50 years ago and remains a centre of excellence for fashion education. Fashion Promotion is a multi-disciplinary communications degree with students specialising in styling, image making, promotion and marketing. We have a proven track record of attracting driven, motivated, and passionate students who want to tap into our pioneering course, we will challenge you, support you and inspire you. With our strong industry links, live projects, and the option to spend a year in industry this gives our students a competitive edge and ensures that future employers sit up and take notice. This course is filled with creative variety and a wide range of learning opportunities that helps students to define their own path and set them up to flourish within the creative industries.


BA (HONS) TEXTILE DESIGN

The textiles course has an innovative hands-on approach, exploring a wide range of textile techniques and surface pattern design combining digital and traditional with a strong emphasis on experimentation and creative practice. The students are exposed to techniques such as; dye, weave, transfer printing, foiling, stitch and digital design interpreting them using unexpected technologies and materials, creating new designs that are at the forefront of textile design. We strongly encourage our students to find their niche and grow into individual textile designers, artists, and makers. We ensure that students have the skills needed to produce a professional portfolio focused on individual areas of interest.


MA FASHION

Whether students continue straight onto the programme from graduating with their degree or come back into education after time in the industry. Our three MA programmes aim to develop their personal practice within their chosen specialism, the options are varied with Fashion Design, Lifestyle and Promotion and Surface Patten and Textiles courses available. The opportunities at UCLan are broad and flexible to accommodate each learners unique vision and goals supported through course design that is a cohesion between theory and practice. Courses provide an environment where ideas can be exchanged and supported through factual creative research, developed and contextualised. We challenge our students to take a critical position in relation to existing theories and encourage new connections within the creative industries.
