Welcome to the School of Art, Design and Architecture at the TEF gold-rated* University of Huddersfield. Consisting of three subject areas, we nurture critical thinking and take a practice-led approach. Our Fashion and Textiles department is at the forefront of innovation, ensuring we are relevant to the fast-moving pace of this global industry.

Fashion Design with Marketing BA (Hons)

The BA (Hons) Fashion Design with Marketing focuses on contemporary fashion design and garment production for womenswear, menswear or unigender.

Why study Fashion Design with Marketing?

You’ll develop professional skills in fashion design, portfolio techniques, CAD, pattern cutting and garment construction, whilst also studying the marketing aspects of a business, including how to create a brand and how to promote your products.

We’ll support you in the application of a range of industry standard technology to bring your ideas to life, including software that will enable you to produce professional fashion marketing material.

Our industry-facing approach, including the opportunity to undertake a placement year, will help prepare you for a career in this exciting and diverse industry.


Fashion Design with Digital Technology BA (Hons)

The BA (Hons) Fashion Design with Digital Technology focuses on contemporary fashion design and garment production for womenswear, menswear or unigender, with the specialism of digital technology for fashion, through digital technologies for fashion design, including pattern design software, virtual prototyping, and true-to-life garment visualization.

Why study Fashion Design with Digital Technology?

You’ll develop professional skills in fashion design, portfolio techniques, CAD, pattern cutting and garment construction alongside an awareness of sustainable practice.

We’ll support you in the application of industry standard software to explore 3D digital technologies for fashion design, using virtual prototyping and true-to-life garment visualization.

Our industry-facing approach, including the opportunity to undertake a placement year, will help prepare you for a career in this exciting and diverse industry.


Fashion Design with Textiles BA (Hons)

The BA (Hons) Fashion Design with Textiles focuses on fashion design, pattern cutting, and garment production with the specialism of textiles, through embellishment, fabric manipulation, and constructed textiles.

Why study Fashion Design with Textiles?

You’ll develop professional skills in fashion design, innovative textile applications, fashion illustration and portfolio techniques, CAD, pattern cutting and garment manufacture techniques.

We’ll support you in the application of a range of industry standard technology to bring your ideas to life and develop an awareness of sustainable practice.

Fashion Brand Marketing BA (Hons)

Fashion Brand Marketing BA (Hons) takes a broad view of everything that goes into the creation, communication, and consumption of fashion products and brands. It gives you the skills and knowledge to develop creativity and expertise within a commercial framework that directly reflects current fashion industry practice.

The academic expertise here at Huddersfield will support you as you develop your brand awareness and marketing skills learning to connect with consumers effectively to manage the consumer experience and to successfully communicate brand values for a variety of fashion organisations, from value brands to luxury labels.

You’ll be equipped to research new products and market opportunities, you’ll learn how to solve problems quickly and creatively, to work collaboratively and manage relationships effectively.


International Fashion Buying Management BA (Hons)

The dynamic environment of fashion buying provides diverse, challenging and exciting opportunities in roles such as trend analysis, fashion buying, merchandising, new product development, and sourcing.

Creatively manage the buying process using a unique skill set. We provide an environment where you can experiment and personalise your learning to develop a wide range of skills to help you become a confident player in this exciting international business.

Participate in innovative focused projects that simulate industry practice to develop the experience you'll need to succeed in the global industry. You'll be equipped to research new solutions, identify market opportunities, solve problems creatively, work collaboratively, manage professional business relationships effectively and take the initiative in all aspects of fashion business. 

Experience reflective industry practice and as such you will work collaboratively as well as individually on a variety of projects.


Fashion Creative Direction BA (Hons)

Creative direction draws on a myriad of visual cultural stimuli, including photography, film, styling, and PR in order to promote fashion in various industry sectors including the media, retail, and branding to name a few.

The role of a creative director is to define and develop the aesthetic of fashion, ranging from store visual merchandising, advertising and image-making, to creative and digital content and customer communications. Fashion Creative Direction BA(Hons) gives you the skills and knowledge to develop your creativity and expertise within a commercial framework that directly reflects current fashion industry practice.

On this course, you'll have the opportunity to use our resources and our unique art and design cross-disciplinary environment to personalise your learning and develop a wide range of skills to help you become a confident player in the exciting fashion industry
