Established in 1850's Brighton, our courses are defined by 4 core values, inclusivity, sustainability, creativity and partnership. Our students are part of a dynamic, diverse and creative community that embraces partnership working and that makes a positive difference to society.
Known for an exciting and energetic design philosophy, technical excellence and strong links with the industry, our course is a rare mix, highly creative but with business studies integrated throughout.
Creativity and craftsmanship are at the heart of our students’ development, as they explore design through making. Specialist areas such as tailoring, creative pattern cutting and materials innovation help to inform their ideas. Students are encouraged to establish an individual approach to design and make, as they develop their expertise in research, concept and design development. Business and Cultural studies help them to think widely and critically about the subject and practice of fashion.
All our students have the opportunity to benefit from the longest running programme of industrial placements, a fantastic opportunity to gain professional experience, to build networks and contacts. Giving them a competitive advantage when they graduate.
The Fashion Communication with Business Studies course is divided into three main pathways; fashion photography and styling, fashion imaging and illustration and visual promotion; our students work to define their own route through the degree. We encourage students to approach their work with a critical and creative mindset where we endeavour to develop creative thinking as well as the specific skills required to be successful fashion communicators. The course is designed to provide a solid foundation for a career in areas including fashion photography, styling, publishing, fashion film, forecasting, creative and art direction, picture editing, PR or visual promotion. Business studies also forms an integral part of the course, helping students to prepare business plans and think in terms of enterprise and entrepreneurship. Many of our graduates also undertake a placement year at a fashion organisation. Through this they have gained valuable industry contacts and have an excellent portfolio of work experience.
