About Me

Hi I’m Zakia, a BA Fashion Branding & Communication Graduate from BCU

Hi I’m Zakia, a 22-year-old graduate from Birmingham City University in BA Hons Fashion Branding & Communication. My multicultural heritage has a huge influence on my broad creative and theoretical skillset, as highlighted throughout my work. I aim to further explore my passion for Fashion Marketing, e-Commerce, Communications and Editorial in industry.

Through my work, I echo my own personal interests, infuse my wide range of skills and mirror areas of my diverse background. I have developed a strong passion for fashion marketing, branding, brand innovation, communications and editorial throughout modules at university and externally. I also take pride in spotlighting issues of diversity and inclusion, sustainability, and innovation within the fashion industry, which is showcased throughout my work. For both my Final Major Project and Independent Final Project, such issues have been dissected and offered innovative solutions.

INSPIRATION

Inspired by the influence of the New-Age Pioneers of Luxury and the growth of minority businesses

Inspired by the growth of diversity and shift in luxury fashion, I created Omni, a 360° Brand Agency specialising in promoting diversity in the luxury industry and innovation in fashion sustainability. My branding & marketing style is inspired by the emergence of innovative marketing using new technologies. For my Independent Final Project I enjoyed having creative freedom for my idea and brief.

Targeted towards 18-24 year olds, the Omni Agency supports small businesses that are inspiring shifts in fashion but lack the resources, technologies and funding. My project focuses on a collaboration with Omni, and new brand Talah, by creating an immersive retail space for a new collection launch. I interviewed industry professionals, the owner of a well-known influential brand, and collaborated with a 3D Visualisation Artist to develop a 3D mock-up of the pop-up space and created a full launch campaign.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

For my dissertation topic, I researched into the growth of diversity in luxury.

As I am passionate about diversity in fashion and the shift of new luxury, I delved into the authenticity of inclusive practices in luxury fashion. I investigated various studies and conducted public surveys and interviews with experts in the topic at hand, such as a British Fashion Council board member, and a luxury brand culture engagement officer that are promoting inclusion in luxury. I also researched into the new pioneers and tastemakers of luxury that are emerging from all backgrounds. I focused on the creative, structural and financial benefits of diversity and inclusion for brands and how well-known brands are becoming more culturally aware. Researching into successfully inclusive marketing campaigns and the positive results of fashion forward branding and marketing. I became inspired by the positive influences that diversity and innovation are having on the industry. I found that brands are benefitting from broadening their inclusivity, through innovation and cultural relevance.
