About Me

Hi! I'm Zach Fornelius, a Fashion Design graduate from AUB

Zachary Fornelius is a fashion designer who focuses heavily on digital pattern cutting and product creation/visualisation with an interest in menswear and accessories.

As someone who has always been interested in computers and fashion, blending the two in a way that is both sustainable and innovative was a no brainer. Due to the covid lockdown, I turned to and embraced the concept of virtual fashion and all brings to the industry. In doing so, I have developed myself as a designer and pattern cutter in ways I don't think would have been possible otherwise. Digital fashion has become my way of life and I will never go back.

INSPIRATION

HEROES by FORNELIUS.

HEROES is an A/W menswear collection inspired by three close friends. They risked their lives to save others in the Colorado STEM School shooting of 2019. It is about them and their uniqueness. Each have widely different interests and passions leading to a unified yet faceted collection. Garments and VR technologies have been used to create individual worlds reflecting heroes’ lives, loves and passions.

It has been very important to represent them respectfully whilst maintaining my design identity. From start to finish the design process is sustainability considered. Garments had upwards of twenty digital prototypes, but required only a single physical toile before fabrication, thus radically reducing waste. An accompanying VR retail experiment reimagines the buying experience and offers an alternative to physical stores.

DETAIL

The Innovative World of Virtual Fashion

The collection draws multiple parallels between types of sustainability. The heroic acts of its muses and environmental integrity require the vitality of contribution, sustenance of life, and bravery to act in the face of impending danger. It was important that this was communicated in every aspect of my collection. In the process, I utilised as many programs as I could (Blender, CLO3D and Unreal Engine) to develop the collection in a sustainable and ethical way that was still cutting edge and exciting. I used organic and recycled fabrics throughout. On top of that, I developed a range of vests to accompany each look.

“Innovation is progress in the face of tradition.“
