My contour design journey has started since 2019 in Leicester. The most delightful aspect of design process to me is that I can express my unlimited imagination and a dream on garment and make people to wear. I love to promote sustainable mindsets through my collection by delivering joy, happiness, nostalgic and comfort.
Various printing process and media also drive me into strong motivation and inspiration. There are the multiple of printing techniques I adore such as flocking, foiling, glitter, devore, and heat press printing. I also love to working with print figures to create and invent a new style of final print with hand/digital illustration, collage, creating primary images and 3D modelling.
INSPIRATION
Sharks are portrayed as monstrous creatures in popular culture and media due to their appearance. They might not be the friendliest creatures, but they do not mean any harm to humans as we are not ideal food source for sharks. Every year, there are 5-10 shark related fatalities and around 100 shark attacks on humans in the world whereas, humans kill around 100 million sharks every year. Sharks are on the top of the food chain and eat smaller fish to survive.
By killing the sharks, the fishing industry can increase the number of catches, resulting into increase in their profit. Although sharks are shown as enemies of humans in mass media, they have a significantly important role in maintaining the balance of livestock in the ecosystem.
DETAIL
‘Sharks out of the Blue Door’ is a swimwear/ resort wear collection celebrating the importance of sharks. For this project, I collaborated with Newarts Studio to create an animation displaying the importance of sharks on preserving corals. Stills from that animation film were then used as a print for my collection. In addition to designing prints, I have also experimented with bonding technique. Bonding allows to join two sheets of fabric without sewing and can produce unique and seamless textured patterns. The fabrics are pleated, glued, and ironed. The pattern of the pleats in this collection are inspired by the dermal denticles found in the skin of the shark. The textured pattern and vivid colours of the print in the collection are interpretation of the valiant and proud personality of the sharks. By creating loud and striking garments, I wanted to boost confidence of the person wearing them. The collection consists of corset, dress, bikini, skirt, bodysuit, bustier, and high waist swim knicker.
