About Me

Hi, I am Frieda a graduate from Pforzheim University - Fashion Design.

My driving point is sustainability. I was inspired by the fact of increasing consumption and finite resources. I am not interested in products that will end up in landfills. These viewpoints have inspired the concept of “reusing, repurposing and reinventing”.

My message is: Let’s pass on more, so that our resources reach further. [WEITER.REICHEN] is the title of this work. It implies many different meanings in the german language. to pass something on
to share
to relay to hand something down to spread the word144
to last
to suffice to be sufficient to be enough to hold/last out In this collection, I only used already existing material which otherwise would have been discarded.

INSPIRATION

Can we make de with what we have and with what already exists - in short, can we stop producing new?

The project is all about revaluing, reusing, reducing, reinventing, recycling, remaking, repairing and repurposing. Ever-increasing consumption causes the continuing growth of landfills. In this project, waste is not viewed as old and useless, but regarded as the gold mines of tomorrow. Items that may have zero value to one person may still have a great value to someone else, even if the item is perceived as out-of-vogue or broken.

The stories told in the collection begin many years back in the past, where the materials were used in their original forms. They are part of our world, thus also part of our future. Regardless of the material –whether it is a carpet, sofa, tablecloth, or a bed sheet– something old can become something new. The exciting thing is what happens when we detach things from their initial context. The carpet doesn’t just have the potential to be a carpet, it also can become something else - e.g. a great garment.

DETAIL

made out of trash

Within the design and the development stage we can already save resources by reconsidering the process. By using only secondhand textile and clothing, which were not longer used in their initial utilization, we can save essentials, prevent waste and higher up the efficiency by extending the lifetime of the material. To achieve a long-living-garment I used reliable material which were initial manufactured for household. All of the used fabrics are high quality. Handcrafted workmanship for me means sewing the garments so they last. I demonstrate with details of mending that a garment can be repaired to extent the lifetime of it but also to show the beauty in the imperfection. Extra width is included in the side seams so that the garment can be adjusted if the wearer grows or changes. I want to transform the way people look at and value things, so we can become a society which is both environmentally conscious and in social solidarity. [WEiTER.REiCHEN] is more then just a fashion brand - it is a lifestyle.!
