Vishmi is a Fashion Designer who explores the current trend of Gender-Neutral fashion among Gen Z. I incorporates sustainable techniques and repurposes second-hand clothing to create unique streetwear pieces. Through my designs, I aims to merge contemporary style with sustainability, fostering a more eco-conscious and inclusive fashion industry.
In my journey as a fashion designer, I have focused on exploring various aspects of gender-neutral fashion. I achieve this by using second-hand clothing, denim and other fabrics, which I transform into contemporary streetwear pieces. These items are meant to appeal to all genders, breaking away from traditional fashion stereotypes. My main goal is to use fashion as a way to evoke deep emotions and confidence in those who wear my designs. I believe that what we wear can influence how we feel about ourselves and how others perceive us.
INSPIRATION
No label is a sustainable streetwear brand that address the need for inclusivity in the fashion industry, offering a platform for individuals of all gender identities to express themselves authentically. Inspired by the artistic essence of Bill Viola's Ascension and the historic significance of the Stonewall Riots, Beyond Gender collection, delves deep into the emotional spectrum of the LGBTQ+ community, capturing the resilience amidst societal judgment.
Fabrics used in the collection are repurposing used and waste denim into organically handcrafted and developed garments, incorporating discarded brocade fabric, and employing eco-friendly denim wash and laser engraving techniques and demonstrate the commitment to environmental preservation. Moreover, the collection helps to improve local craftsmanship such as natural dying and crochet techniques.
DETAIL
Beyond Gender celebrates sustainability by revitalizing end-of-life denim through innovative techniques such as patchworking, laser engraving and plaiting. By repurposing second-hand denim jeans and utilizing waste fabrics from sewing facilities, the collection significantly reduces textile waste and minimizes the demand for new resources. Each unique piece showcases the creativity and craftsmanship involved, embodying a commitment to reducing the environmental footprint. This practice helps conserve water and energy, reduce carbon emissions, and lessen the chemical pollution associated with traditional denim production, supporting a circular economy that values reuse and transformation. This collection promotes inclusivity and resonates with younger generations who value authenticity and sustainability. In doing so, "No Label - Beyond Gender" fosters a more open-minded society, using fashion as a tool for self-expression and equality.
