Trisha Tigno is a Filipina womenswear designer, born in the UK, passionate about celebrating her cultural heritage through her work. Drawing inspiration from both her Filipino roots and British upbringing, she creates thoughtful, expressive designs that reflect her identity and tell deep, personal stories.
Through my work, I aim to bridge my British upbringing with my Filipino culture, and highlight the beauty of heritage in contemporary fashion. Additionally in my work, I want to showcase and reference traditional Filipino costumes, bringing attention to their beauty and cultural significance while reimagining them in a modern context.
INSPIRATION
As a Filipina born and raised in the UK, I carry a unique blend of cultures that shapes my perspective and fuels my admiration for Filipina women. Their overlooked stories inspire me to give a voice to them, while also making me grateful for the freedoms I enjoy—opportunities my parents sought by leaving the Philippines.
Through this deep connection to my heritage, I aim to shed light on the ongoing issues surrounding women’s rights in the Philippines—issues that often remain hidden from global conversations. Many Filipina women face challenges such as, limited access to education and healthcare. By raising awareness about these issues, I hope to contribute to a greater understanding of their fight for justice and equality. My graduate collection is a tribute to these women—a promise to uplift their voices.
DETAIL
As the creative director for my graduate collection photoshoot, I felt it was fitting to set it in a church. The collection explores the Catholic Church's influence over the Philippines, particularly in relation to women's reproductive rights. By choosing a church as the setting, I aimed to visually emphasize the powerful role religion plays in shaping societal views and laws, especially those that affect women's autonomy.
