About Me

Hey! I’m Timmi and I am a fashion graduate from Coventry University

I’m an interdisciplinary fashion creative from Kenya and Italy currently based in Coventry where I've studied Fashion for the past four years.

My work explores African diasporic aesthetics, notions of identity and inclusivity, womanhood, cultural backgrounds, and social and political issues. I considers my work to be more than its materialistic value, as it aims to provide people with a more meaningful and cultural relevance.

INSPIRATION

Diaspora and its impact on fashion, culture, politics, and society in modern-day society.

In a historical period of uncertainty and constant change in which everything is being questioned and we all feel lost, a little lonely, and absorbed by the hectic pace of everyday life, fashion and the way we present ourselves are increasingly becoming tools for indicating and representing our identity and belonging What we wear and our style serve as a medium of communication, allowing us to give strategic information about ourselves, our backgrounds, and what we stand for.

Inspired by multimedia publication Visionaries, as part of my final major project, I’ve worked on a fashion and actuality magazine where I’ve looked at Diaspora with a focus on African Diaspora and its impact on fashion, culture, politics, and society in modern-day society. My goal is to raise awareness about diaspora and getting people to understand the importance of fashion and its relationship with society and politics.

DETAIL

Publication product range

Additionally to my publication I’ve created a range of products as part pf its packaging. The pieces are wearable accessories made from braiding hair. I decided to use braiding hair and braid them to make garments and accessories as well as embellishments to celebrate Afro hair and hairstyles, claim back the real meaning that they have for black people, and claim back the beauty of our own identity, which I believe is a great reflection of how fashion can be a great tool of communication of social issues and culture.
