I am a freelance fashion image-maker based in Bristol, that produces colourful, contemporary and modern imagery. Throughout my degree I have aimed to challenge the typical fashion image, My work is my process of breaking barriers and social norms in aim to get my audience talking.
My approach to imagery doesn’t typically conform to the standard technique of fashion imagery. My imagery is a reflection of my creative thinking, my outlook on society and challenging norms with a fine art influence, while also creating a contempory fashion image. I love to create work that aims to capture an audience and engage them within the visuals, as well as the topics. This is mostly achieved by my drive to provoke a response.
INSPIRATION
Throughout my practice I choose to explore the beauty in the mundane, I focus on usual aspects of life/society to create imagery that is unusual. My latest project explores this. Taboos are social structures placed to keep society inline, these " rules " are unspoken and are enforced by inflicting guilt and shame onto one-other. My inspiration for this project was to criticise and challenge this social structure through images that shine a light and focus on what people are choosing to not talk about.
ITS ALL SO TABOO - A personal image-making project surrounding the social topics of taboos. This project aims to highlight, challenge and critique the system in which taboos inflict shame and guilt, in aim to break barriers of association and shame.
DETAIL
I have experimented with block colour and vibrant images throughout my degree. With my first year being in lockdown, I had to find ways of creating something powerful and eye-catching out of the simplest settings. I managed this by using heavy amounts of colour and highly vibrant images. This allowed me to express my creative outlook on more “usual” and everyday settings, whilst still trying to engage my audience. This is something I have continued to develop throughout my imagery and I now feel this is an integral component of my visual identity as an image maker.
