About Me

Hi, I am Sophie, a Fashion Design and Technology graduate from MFI.

As a fashion design graduate I specialise in Menswear. My design philosophy is centred around exploring concepts of uniform and utility with function at the forefront of all my designs.

Throughout my studies and placement year I have developed my technical and creative skills and evolved my own personal design philosophy. I generate ideas from initial concept and innovate by taking inspiration from archive garments to create conceptual yet wearable clothing. I have a strong attention to detail and emphasis on functional design and silhouette, durability, longevity and comfort throughout my work.

INSPIRATION

Where I gather inspiration

Every project I do starts with an archive visit, where I gather as much first hand research as possible. I become absorbed in the projects concept and am absolutely fascinated by historical imagery. That is where all my projects from my final year have begun... with visits to Harrow and Westminster School archives, Scott Polar Research Institute and collecting imagery from the archives at Silverstone.

DETAIL

FMP Project - 'A Class Act'

My final project revolves around a reinterpretation of classic British heritage sports attire and the longstanding tradition of public-school uniforms, blending tradition and modernity. Drawing inspiration from the rugby and football kits worn in British public schools during the late 19th century to mid 20th century, my objective was to reimagine these iconic garments to create an everyday uniform that evokes a sense of belonging and identity. By delving into personal archives deeply rooted in public school heritage dating back to the World War II, I merged tradition with a contemporary athleisure aesthetic.

"I always like playing with some sort of typical convention or idea and turning it over." Thom Browne
