About Me

Fashion Accessory Design

I'm Sophie, I have had the opportunity to study at Nottingham Trent University for the past three years in BA Hons Fashion Accessory Design and have loved my experience here. I like to create work that reflects my personality in some way through colour or subject and creating something I'm proud of that shows creativity and originality.

Working with leather has been a definite learning curve coming from an art and design background, my way to get inspired is by creating messy sketchbooks where I can write/ draw any ideas that come to mind. I have always been intrigued by the fashion world and the expression of individuality through clothing and accessories. When I came across my course it excited me with its unique subject that sounded like a lot of fun and extremely interesting to me. I always love a challenge when it comes to creating and learning new skills.

INSPIRATION

Being Inspired by artists / designers and where my concepts come from

The idea for my FMP stemmed from my interest in working with more ethical materials. I feel the next largest move for the fashion industry is to start reusing old materials and creating new ways for fabrics to be more sustainable. I feel all new designers should be considering using new ethical materials in their collections. Because of this I decided to design a whole collection of woman's bags made from cork leather and bamboo silk, two materials that are biodegradable.

My concept for my FMP is nature vs the industry. Other work shown is from past projects - Men's footwear collection for the high end fashion brand Stella McCartney who's work I admire for her ethics and designs. The Glovers Guild competition which was inspired by the future and taking old ideas from the 1960s space era. River Island group project concept Chinese maximalism. The black project which is the first project for year 1, This was inspired by Henry Moore sculptures at Yorkshire sculpture park.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Sophie Louise Fashion Accessory Design

My favourite part of my work is designing. I find it very relaxing to sit and draw hundreds of bags and see where it takes me. I have learnt many skills over my time at university in sampling and workshops. Skills- Industrial machine sewing, CAD, laser cutting, 3D printing, metal work. I have also worked on different stitching techniques, pockets and bags and purses. I have learnt many skills to take with me to the industry and im excited to keep learning in the work place and to take my next step in my creative journey.
