About Me

Hi! I'm Sophia, a Fashion Communication graduate from UWE.

I am a photographer who is innovative and observant of the world around me. There are no limits to where I find my inspirations, whether this be from the past, present or future, reality or fiction, personal experience or influenced by others.

I believe expressing ideas is done best through experimenting with photography and elements around it. I find satisfaction in experimenting with different photographic techniques and styles, finding they can express themes in the most effective way to communicate your imagination and ideas. In my recent projects, colour and lighting has been an important factor of my creativity, feeling it is a great contribution to the mood and character of an image.

INSPIRATION

Shifting our priorities to sustainable fashion.

The future is about protecting our planet, so I wanted to carry this desire to help through my images. This shoot was shot at a location close to my heart, I associate it with my childhood, peace and heritage, a place I want to protect. Making this project personal to me, I hoped to inspire other people through them, encouraging people to find their own comfort in outdoor enviroments that have been a support to them.

To communicate this, I was inspired by a sustainable material called Econyl, which is becoming popular amongst big fashion brands such as Gucci, of whom was a big inspiration for my styling. Its two main ingredients are recycled fishing nets and plastics, of which I used as props to communicate this message. With regards to the photography, I was inspired to create a moody, autumnal tone, creating an overall neutral image through the orange, red, yellow and brown from the clothing.

DETAIL

Working collaboratively

For the Lazy Oaf Trash and Treasure project, I worked within a team to produce imagined campaign content for their latest collection. Working alongside Marta Wisniewska as photographer, we were able to communicate LAZY OAF's creative inspirations of teenage rebellion and youth nostalgia whilst having comedic undertones. Our team explored the theme of car boot sales. Our inspiration for the photography came from our research into the brands campaign archive, analyzing their photographic style, whilst also bringing our own interpretation of our concept choosing a documentary style with high saturation and flash photography. We looked at photographers such as Martin Parr and William Eggleston.

“The photo that you took with your camera is the imagination you want to create with reality.” – Scott Lorenzo
