About Me

Hi, I’m SOF, I am a Graphic and Fashion DESIGN student

Sofia obando is a Colombian creative and designer specialising in genderless clothing design and the construction and manipulation of structures and silhouettes. Her passionate interest in dreams, mind and time, in addition to her focus on the importance of process and storytelling, allows her to develop conceptual and cutting edge.

My design passion thrives on mutability, embracing diverse techniques, materials, and dimensions. During my studies I explored and connect with several skills, such as illustration and graphics, both digital and analog, craftsmanship, creative direction, haute couture, and fashion editorial. Recently, I have refined my techniques to craft conceptual designs, the wardrobe becomes a limitless canvas, creating body-engaging pieces with minimal molding, playing with its reverse, volumes, structure, and silhouette.

INSPIRATION

TRANSVERGENCIA

This project is inspired by the nostalgic look of an adult to the dreams of her childhood. The costumes became the possibility of the impossible: the convergence of two versions of time in the same being, the look from the past to the future and from the future to the past, and how they constantly communicate and transform each other.

I explore the duality of the tangible and malleable through paper's re-signification. Garments become that material we transformed over time with drawings, stories, color, and teachings, even altering its dimensions for new constructions. It use metaphors of folding, creasing, and exploring both sides to reveal how design can challenge established norms.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Minimalist finishes for dramatic game of structures and silhouettes

The details of my collection are inspired on white canvas, using linen as a material that gives me that tactile sensation that resembles a paper. The looks are made with a minimal pattern, consisting of 2 to 3 patterns per complete outfit, and are manipulated through folds and pleats to create wearable structures. The goal is to be as minimalist as possible when it comes to the use of technique, so it has the minimum amount of essential seams to be maintained and all of them are invisible. In addition to having a visual game between its front and reverse using the graphics.

"Dreams are the literature of the soul, one reads one's own dreams very carefully, interprets them and often marvels at one's own creative capacity” - August Strindberg
