I am very keen on movies about disasters or telling various legends, and every time I watch these kind of movies, I feel as if I am reborn again. And after watching, I always think “Do I value life? Do I follow the rules of nature right?” and reflect on it.
What has war done to us? War is terrible not only as a humanitarian disaster for each nation, but also because it aggravates the global environment. It causes irreparable damage to the environment, leads to the conflicts between nations and people, disrupts the ecological balance, and destroys human civilization. War leaves life-lasting scars on the earth and people who were affected by the war in one way or another.
INSPIRATION
There was a giant island of Atlantis in the Atlantic Ocean. The Empire possessed a treasure trove of natural resources, was wealthy, had a strong military force, and controlled vast territories, but its people became corrupted and turned to materialism longing to expand their territory which brought the Empire to devastation. After a great war the island of Atlantis sank to the bottom of the sea in just a day and a night due to a great earthquake and flood, and so the great Empire was destroyed.
This story talks about the environmental destruction caused by war. One of the reasons for environmental problems can be considered the greedy capture of larger territories. I want to tell people that if wars don't stop, one day we will become a disappearing civilization like Atlantis. Through this collection, I want to make people think about the problem of environmental destruction caused by war and lead to a solution.
DETAIL
In order to express the idea of disorganization, I reconstructed different clothes and assembled them into several pieces in different manners. To create a chaotic and old-fashioned feeling, and emphasize the horror of war, I used different techniques: hand-sewing parts of various materials and burning clothes with fire, bleaching the colours, and tearing the fabric. As for the silhouette, each item is layered so that the body is not visible, wrapped like armor to create volume.
