About Me

Hi I'm Sith, a fashion design and textiles graduate from AOD Sri Lanka

Design is an effective outlet for true creative innovation. Through synergizing fashion, design and textiles, an amazing innovative fashion product can be engineered. Sithma is a true enthusiast of combining technology with her true passion in the fashion design sphere, digital design and innovative sustainable textiles.

I have always been tech-savvy and was always an avid lover of computer games. Video games enabled me to explore a world beyond my wildest imagination. With the colourful graphics enriched by the most outlandish concept art, I could carry myself to unreachable worlds beyond my reach; I was bewildered and seduced by the technology behind video games. Thus, now I strive to synergize that which I adore; design + fashion + technology with a sparkle of engineering to innovate sustainable fashion.

INSPIRATION

The Infinite space; Interstellar travel, Tessellations and Modular Fashion Engineering

'Z'in Finity ~ to the Unknown' is inspired by Interstellar travel, tessellations and modular fashion construction built surrounding the themes of Future World 2050 and Sustainable textiles. To explore the core themes, I delved deep into a more than two-decades-old pop-culture sci-fi video game that is a current E-sports sensation, Starcraft II and H.R Giger's original concept art for the movie Alien and David Altmejd's art.

The concept story portrays the life of six prominent personalities in the 2050s. May it be a fully destroyed earth or a fully technologically reformed Mars, there will always be people in power that abuses it. This is the story of X'in finity, Colony of Mars. Those that rule over mankind during an era of uncertainty. Each look symbolizing a unique trait that each personality embody through their attires.

DETAIL

MIND BOGGLING SURFACE DESIGNS USING INNOVATIVE TEXTILES

As an avid lover of textiles, I had to figure out methods to synergize technology and textiles to engineer 'Alien-like' fabrics. I achieved this with three methodologies. I worked with advanced laser cutting technology to create a modular interlocking system using laser-cut pieces to resemble armour. This gave my garments elements of modification, be it in lengthening or shortening and adding or removing garment components. Then I worked with natural rubber milk to create eco alternatives to latex and leather fabrics, mimicking their surface textures. Though the use of rubber milk without any chemical treatment/ additives determined the final outcome of the textile unpredictable and dependent on the humidity of the environment, this was the most intriguing. Thirdly, I was working with Crotchet artisans of Kalaroo in SL to create the most alien-looking knitted garment. The mix of recycled t-shirt yarns, silver wires and cashmere wool made the final outcome a sight to behold.
