About Me

I’M SHIHUI ZHENG, I STUDIED FASHION DESIGN AT BUNKA FASHION COLLEGE

My work is called ‘what’s love?’ and the inspiration came from the exploration of love. This collection conveys the concept of environmental protection. I used recycled materials to complete the whole collection. The purpose is for encouraging people to live in harmony with nature.

My exploration of love ranges from love between man and nature, romantic love between person and person, and also love between parents and children. In the past 18 months COVID-19 has spread all over the world, and people have suffered from such virus and other natural aspects. We need to realize that nature is sounding the alarm and reminding people to protect the environment. We ought to search for the trace of love from all things which will follow nature’s cycle. It will be born, it will die, it will be replaced many times in one’s life, love is all beings, love is all encompassing.

INSPIRATION

MY INITIAL IDEA STARTED FROM MY EXPERIENCE IN MARCH 2020, ON A JOURNEY WITH MY LOVER

We drove around the mountain road, occasionally stopping to look at the scenery and also smell the fragrance of spring. We looked at each other, the love between us and our love for nature merged into one. The two of us have experienced a lot of ups and downs together, but we wrapped our soft hearts in armor for each other. Our whole lives are dyed blue by the blazing love which wrapped by the vast sea, which had no end, and no death.

The story in the design: We do not have the choice to choose are own body, but we can decide for our own soul. The soul of a boy can exist inside a body of a girl, and the soul of a girl can also exist in the body of a boy. There is nothing wrong with this. We trap ourselves and our thinking is limited by life. We may not express it through words but that does not mean we do not love. Our love is embodying bravery and tolerance under the public view. We love what we love, and we are loved as well.

DETAIL

I USED RECYCLED MATERIALS, DECONSTRUCTED AND RECONSTRUCTED THEM TO CREATE MY COLLECTION

I extracted the elements I wanted from the research, line sketched them and then filled them in with colors. I think that blue is a bright but melancholic, gentle and emotional, “warm” color. I think it’s the color of love. I extracted elements from plastic bottles and used the shape of different forms of the bottles; crushed, crinkled. And created oceanic aspects using buttons and ruffles. The fabrics are superimposed to form a transitional color of eight colors, which symbolizes the temperature of a relationship. The garment made out of wrapping socks is sketched out on to the silhouette of the human body, done by memory. The wrapping of big and small fabrics and garments are like ourselves being hugged by love.

Our whole lives are dyed blue by the blazing love which wrapped by the vast sea, no end, no death. I will still go forward courageously and embrace you before the darkness comes.
