About Me

Hi, this is Sheena a graduate from Nottingham university.

Travel instills creativity, having had many international exposures has imbibed a global thinking lens within. Going through various location transitions developed adaptability and flexibility to deal with dynamic situations, surroundings, cultural and language differences. Blending different cultures inspires me to create contemporary universal looks.

My project tries to remind people that we live in a blended world where people of different race and colour have to accept each other. In a year when racism has been front and center, how can we break out of our own orbits to understand the life experiences of other people, especially those of other races?

INSPIRATION

The impact created by leading lines in the viewer's visuals.

Butterfly effect theory caught my attention as it resonated with my personal life experience which states that "change is constant" and also how a difference in a fraction of a fraction creates a prominent impact. This year has been very unpredictable due to the pandemic and a decision made by an individual impacts a group at large. The challenge is how an individual gets accustomed to change and unravels every situation.

My concept Leading lines originates from the visual graph of the butterfly effect which consists of reiteration of lines. I’m intrigued how a simple element such as a line can have a huge effect in the viewer’s eye and the impactful visuals created by multiple lines in one frame. This inspired me to capture the different visual impact of lines and it’s imagery formed due to different placement, repetition, length, texture and width.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Lines give a feeling of movement to a design. Using line to give direction to the viewer's eye.

The visual element of line is the foundation of all imagery. Line is the first and most versatile of the visual elements which inspired and challenges me as a designer to use one element to suggest shape, pattern, form, structure, depth, distance, rhythm, movement and a range of textures. My project consists of various techniques such as screen-printing, digital printing and advanced pattern cutting. I am trying to play with lines to create an optical illusion and create a texture as well. As a designer my responsibility is to create durable, functional and aesthetically pleasing garments simultaneously. I have kept in mind to use ethical and cruelty free fabrics and methods for my collection. Each piece has been designed after multiple questioning to ensure the best use of the fabric and to utilize best of its physical durability.

"The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of its people."
