About Me

I'm Sarah a Fashion Design and Marketing graduate from Northumbria.

I Specialised in unisex wear as I want to break down gender barriers. Through focusing on practicality and aesthetics rather than social norms. At the same time, considering sustainable means, through creative construction and the marketing of my brand- considering zero waste, recycling and the use of end of roll fabrics.

Through my years studying fashion I have shifted my focus from womenswear to unisex wear. Questioning society’s norms with what we ‘should’ wear while aiding everyday life in a functional sense. Directing the design process to longevity, and practicality to aid a more sustainable, adventurous and travel-friendly lifestyle.

INSPIRATION

Stemming from nomadic living and my own Van life experience- I wanted to enhance this way of life

My FMP brand ‘Wayward’ began through my own personal experiences with van life and a need for both practicality and style in garments. Sharing clothes, layering and packing light all became the focus of my design. Using the Tibetan nomads (Dropka) as inspiration for my silhouette and colour palette and combining them with my own Yorkshire heritage. Sourcing end of roll fabrics and unwanted garments to construct a collection ready for the ‘The people of the solitudes’

In my work I wanted to create a space for a community, bringing travel and outdoor enthusiasts together. The most important essential in my own travelling is a pack of playing cards. Constructing my own with graphics that express the joys of adventure. Through my marketing strategy of interacting with customers, ‘The Wayward Club’ offers an exclusive community to those who also enjoy van life and the outdoors in a effort to bring more people together. This provoked the idea of a bi-annual zine.

DETAIL

In my work I wanted to create a space for a community, bringing outdoor enthusiasts together.

The most important essential in my own travelling, is a pack of playing cards. Constructing my own with graphics that express the joys of adventure. Through my marketing strategy of interacting with customers, ‘The Wayward Club’ offers an exclusive community to those who also enjoy van life and the outdoors in an effort to bring more people together. This provoked the idea of a bi annual zine expressing different activities, individuals stories and games inside.
