About Me

HI, IM SAMANTHA JAYNE A GRADUATE FROM USW

The aim for my collection was to capture the image and ethos of the new working woman. To create a range that makes women feel mentally and physically powerful "by projecting a prowess that tells the world its wearer means business even if that is simply getting up, getting dressed and taking on another day" (a D'vignon, the Atlantic,2017).

My intentions were to create a seasonless collection that functioned for the needs of the New Working Woman. I aimed to create statement pieces that every woman needs in her wardrobe, that adapt to every occasion in her life. If that's going into an important business meeting, lounging on her couch, or going for drinks after work. Allowing my customer to invest in one item that she can adapt to suit her needs. Creating clothing that does it all!

INSPIRATION

MY INITIAL INSPIRATION STEMMED FROM MY DISSERTATION RESEARCH ON POWER DRESSING IN THE 80s

I was astonished by the interview's that I had taken with real working women during the 80's. I found it interesting to see their views on POWER dressing and to see how these ideas compared to todays society and working environment for women. I stopped and asked myself who is the New Working Woman of today!

From here I started to take inspiration from current day work facilities and how the women around me were adapting to this new flexible working life style of balancing work in the office and the comfort of your own home. Also taking into consideration how this new alteration in our life style effects your mental health. From these ideas of adaptability, I expanded my research to not look at just adapting life styles, but clothing. Therefore taking inspiration from circular fashion and detachable garments.

DETAIL

IT'S IN THE DETAILS

The finer details of my collection are what allowed it to come to life. The finer details allowed me to be able to adapt my collection from one look to the next from a simple button, a zip or tie around the waist, ankle or wrist. The finer details are more important than you think! Each fabric in this collection has been considered thoroughly from the repurposed deadstock, wools, silk and personal printed lining inspired by my research on mental health. I have tried to make the collection zero waste by designing with minimal waste and then using the scarps left over to weave into my accessories as a textile design feature.

"BY PROJECTING A PROWESS THAT TELLS THE WORLD ITS WEARER MEANS BUSINESS EVEN IF THAT IS SIMPLY GETTING UP, GETTING DRESSED AND TAKING ON ANOTHER DAY" (a D'vignon, the Atlantic,2017).
