About Me

I'm Samantha and I am a fashion design and marketing graduate.

I am a fashion and design marketing graduate of 2022, my final year was about creating a brand and a concept that would allow a relaxed space, the pressures of the world in this generation are high and I wanted to be able to create something that makes us feel at ease from the busy, loud world we share.

After studying fashion design and marketing for four years I have witnessed the importance and need for sustainability in our day-to-day lives and especially within the fashion industry. Throughout studying I have noticed how hard brands try to capture a sustainable element as consumer demand increases and I have admired the steps forward to slow fashion. We are now in the a valuable period to make a change within how we choose materials, construction, and design components to make the most sustainable choice possible.

INSPIRATION

My initial inspiration came from a walk along the beach on a Tuesday in October.

On a cold Tuesday in October, I found myself feeling overwhelmed, finding it hard to pin down a concept with ideas circling my mind. I decided to take some time out to see things in a new perspective, therefore I took myself to the beach wrapped up in my winter clothes for a chilling walk. As the October breeze rushed across my face, I realized the best way to capture the aesthetic I desired was to take ‘A walk along the beach’.

My inspiration for my sustainable materials was inspired by taking local materials that are not typically used for garment construction and creating new innovations within menswear, using as many sustainable options as possible. I wanted to create a collection that was thought out for the consumer and for our planet.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Recycled Knit with Up-cycled Jumper

Within the outfit I used an up-cycled parachute for the gilet, body piece and trousers. However, for the jumper I used yarns made from 50% recycled bottles and I up-cycled men's navy jumpers that had no other use anymore. The knitting techniques used were purposely placed to keep the most important organs the warmest using racking for thicker, secure warmth and the cardigan stitch for looser movement.
