About Me

Hi, I'm Ruixin, a fashion acc graduate from Ravensbourne Uni London

I am Final Year Fashion Accessory Design student specializing in bags and body accessories. Through my three years of study at Ravensbourne, I have come to realize that I am interested in functional art. Between the artistic aspects of performing art and commercial products.

I like to explore the relationships and possibilities between accessories and the body, as well as explore the hypothetical situations that humans may evolve into in the future. These kinds of issues are also something I keep thinking about and give me the most inspiration. I also want to use this collection to reflect on what else is the reason for being a designer? How can we contribute to social issues while bringing fashion items to consumers?

INSPIRATION

“Will human involute into cannibals to solve the global social issues in the future?”

My FMP Project called: ‘New Cannibals’. New stands for what we will evolute into in the future, and Cannibals means who we are in the past. This project is a hypothesis on the future of human lifestyles and the evolution of the body caused by social issues such as inequality in the social hierarchy, famine, and environmental pollution. With these unsolved problems, what the world and human civilization will evolve into in the future.

‘New Cannibals’ is an accessory collection which plays with aprons as a representation of hierarchical stakeholders in consumerism. Utilizing the metaphor of the butcher’s apron and gloves as a ‘distributer’ of items ‘consumed’, each of the main designs transform from apron to another product type (i.e. gloves, table, table cloth, etc…) with additional touches such as finger cutlery / gloves. Each item is beautifully constructed in design with delightful discoveries.

DETAIL

Who We Will Become?

In an era of future Overpopulated causes huge demand of food and the sources are limited People have fallen back on cannibalism to survive Our culture descended into barbarism The restaurants and markets start serve human flesh like people did in the history Eating others is nature process of energy transformation Eating becomes a certain ceremony This is part of the evolutionary process of mankind Or perhaps evolution will eventually lead to degradation and its a new start A new chance for us all to redeeming our sins? Where we will be in the upcoming future, to be the one who holds the knife or the one on the table? And how we would live with that situation, is what I'm currently believed in and truly concerned about. The whole project is focused on exploring the many possibilities for the evolution of the human body and the possibility of humans eating the bodies of their kind in the future.
