I am a womenswear designer, with focus on creating feel good, playful and interactive clothing. I design to provoke feelings of joy and nostalgia.
I have developed a passion for the use of bold colour palettes, print placement, texture and sensory exploration within the fabric I use. I feel these are the elements which best allow me to accumulate innovate design ideas which enables me to best communicate my designer handwriting.
INSPIRATION
My love for sensory textile exploartion naturally developed into my final collection. A massive inspiration for my work came from Jean Dubuffet's large-scale interactive sculptures. The idea of taking people out of everyday realities was something that I wanted to embody within my own work. This lead me to gain initial research from my own immersive experiences which translated into my final print, silhouette and fabric outcomes.
The idea of creating interactive garments influenced my title "sense-scape" pushing me to explore different textile methods and techniques of laser cut as well as more traditional methods such as crochet to create 3D layers of texture and illusions.
DETAIL
I looked at experimention with laser cutting my final fabrics to create layers of different fabric textures and colour ways which counteract with each other. I feel as though using this method within my final garments allowed me to push myself out of my comfort zone as a designer to advance with taking more risks and explore more technological techniques within fashion. Furthermore, to develop the idea of interacting with the garment, I wanted to bring in texture using crochet and faux fur. I gained inspiration to use these materials and method from a Shrimps jacket. I felt as though the sensory aspect of this jacket was something I wanted to bring into my own work.
