About Me

Hello! I'm Rhiannon a Fashion Design graduate from BCU

I am a womenswear designer, with a passion for designing courageous streetwear with the goal of making clothes that radiate confidence.

The projects I worked on this past year are very close to my heart, because they show the beginnings of me realising myself as a designer and what creations I want to put out into the world. Whether that be a personal story shown through art, colour and clothing or awareness to our part played in the hardship of animals.

INSPIRATION

Both my collections 'Ur[BAN] Crush' and 'Wild Loyalties' show my take on streetwear.

My first collection 'Ur[BAN] Crush' was developed in collaboration with SuperDry, whose goal was to build a project with a foundation in sustainability. Only being given garments/materials to produce an outcome, I had no limits when it came to concept and design a collection. The colour story of 'Ur[BAN] Crush' is meant to portray the juxtaposition of emotions such as love, loneliness and stubbornness, as my concept begins between a couple on the verge of a relationship breakdown.

My final collection 'Wild Loyalties' begins with my love for animals and my curiosity of the strong social bonds developed between predatory creatures. In particular, the 'Blackfish' documentary about killer whales made me want to investigate just how much these animals are put through being taken at a young age from their family groups into captivity for our entertainment. This concept lead to a line up close to my heart as a tribute to what these animals have endeavoured.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Starting the year with a sustainable project, it was an aim to continue making conscious decisions.

The collaboration with SuperDry was very inspiring to me as my knowledge of the importance of sustainability grew. I wanted to stay aware and make sustainable decisions and being resourceful by reusing old fabric for my toiling process and sourcing my fabrics locally to make as small a carbon footprint as possible, as well as using spare fabric for additional accessories such as hats and masks. In addition to this my textiles from both projects with either hand dyed or hand painted.

"These are wild animals and they are unpredictable, because we don't speak whale. We don't speak whale, we don't speak tiger, we don't speak monkey" - Whoopi Goldberg
