About Me

Just call me Rae :)

My journey at the Manchester Fashion Institute nurtured my curiosity and creative spirit, fostering resilience and confidence in my skills as a Fashion Designer. I specialise in high-end womenswear, with a bespoke approach to fashion creation. I love the detail-focused process and aim to make each garment a wearable work of art.

I've always had a great appreciation for beauty in everything I encountered, always finding beauty in the mundane. My love for the visual arts has been a part of me for as long as I can remember, and my love for fashion blossomed during my teens. What began as a desire for self-expression evolved into a dream of creating my own designs to share with others. I enjoy experimenting with unique embellishments and have explored embroidery techniques, 3D printing, and sublimation printing at university.

INSPIRATION

Light and Shadow

My Graduate Collection is inspired by illusions of light, mirror images, and the contrast between our inner selves and the selves we choose to present to the outside world. It explores the constant social performance required to meet others' expectations, especially for women, who are often held to unrealistic beauty standards. I wanted to challenge and deconstruct my internalised rules for beauty and discover what the word truly means to me, free from the influence of society and corporations.

Throughout the design process I employed creative pattern cutting and draping techniques to create unique silhouettes. Delicate hand embellishments and distinctive fabric choices bring the garments to life, elevating the designs to new heights. The concept of light and darkness is reflected in the fabric choices, with velvet and satin representing shadow and light. Unique metal trims contrast nicely with sheer, lightweight silk chiffon, further emphasising the duality of the collection.

DETAIL

Delicate details and quality craftsmanship

Throughout my process, I focused on ensuring that the construction and quality of the garments would meet the standards of high-end consumers. I used high-quality fabrics for every garment and incorporated small but impactful details such as hand-sewn fabric manipulation and dainty gold trims. Every design decision was carefully made to communicate the concept and align with my personal design values.
