About Me

Hi! I'm Rebekah, fashion graduate from NUA

Rebekah is a multi disciplinary designer and stylist based in Norwich. Her collection Anomaly draws inspiration from cult cinema, surreal art and interior design. Utilising vintage upholstery fabrics within her collection, she aims to breath new life into unloved fabrics and prove that old furniture can be utilised within the industry.

"I grew up watching French New wave and cult cinema from Jean Luc Goddard to Stanley Kubrick. Therefore my work is deeply rooted in the aesthetic of these films, as well as music and youth culture from the 1950's to the 1980's, including Teddies, Punks and Beatniks. Each collection that I create will have essences of these youth groups littered throughout to keep alive some of the history that paved the way to our creativity and ideas."

INSPIRATION

Dali's House

Anomaly is the love child of interior design and surrealism. As a young girl I visited Salvador Dali’s home in Spain, this is where I developed my fascination for this art form. The remanence of his personality still lived there. I remember looking through a tiny window to view what was surprisingly an optical illusion into a huge room littered with anomalies - making up his personal fascinating wonderland, I became hooked...

The research into Dali and surrealism also led me to discover Elsa Schiaparelli when I was around 10, to this day she also plays a heavy influence in my work. Anomaly is all about portraying elements of the home on the body, wearing the interior on the exterior. It mixes old fashioned florals with graphic print and upholstery fabrics to create a collection full of character, reminding us that home is indeed where the heart is.

DETAIL

Look 1

Anomaly is based heavily around the use of objects found around the home, from the silhouette of a lampshade or chair. The collection utilises upholstery fabric, vintage curtains, bedding and trims to bring to life the sometimes mundane feel of these old objects. "My aim going forward is to extend this collection and use as many recycled homewares as I can lay my hands on."

"You may be a woman and you may be an artist; but the one is a given and the other is you.” Dorothea Tanning
