About Me

Im currently in my final year at Nottingham Trent University, studying fashion knitwear design and knitted textiles. When applying to design at NTU after my foundation year at New College Nottingham. I was unaware how experimental and creative knitwear could be and become. So when I started at NTU, I was bewildered with the capabilities I could achieve.

Designers I look to for inspiration and work ethic are Alexander McQueen & Guo Pei, who I believe are unique to fashion. as they bring their own identity and unique perspective to a concept with so many restraints. They design/ed Art not fashion, which is what I strive for, especially what I intend to do at my MA course at RCA in the September.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration for this collection is my Mother, hence the collection title Gods of Susan!

Throughout my teens I struggled with a drug addiction, which resulted into disrespecting my mother. For years I've held a lot of regret and pain. Ive always said to myself one day I will do something too ask for her forgiveness and apologise to her. This is what inspired my collection, a collection devoted and inspired by my mother.

God's of Susan consisted of analysing my Mother (Susan) personality and creating characters throughout my concept; Dramatsue (Gods of Theatrics), Besueful (God of Beauty), Opressue (God Of Oppression and Suerrior (God of Strength). Due to the constraints of the pandemic ive focused purely on Dramatsue. Firstly, I analysed what Dramatic and Theatrical meant to me and my Mother, where we both resulted in the theatre. Theatre and historic costume design were my main focuses for this particular GOD of Susan.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

ZERO WASTE, FULLY SHAPED, HAND LACED OUTER JACKET

For my sustainability approach I concluded to develop a jacket which was fully fashioned and shaped to make sure no yarn was wasted. The technique was inspired by the royalty and wealth of my research images from the book 'History of Costume' which translated periodically costume such as from the ruff to the leg of mutton which gave me a great perspective of details, colours and silhouette to further enhance my design process. The lace came about from such research and I developed my own technique to portray an element of class, wealth and power which how I regard my mother as a strong, powerful women and lace to me was the greatest fabric to portray that perspective.
