About Me

I am an innovative womenswear designer

I have enjoyed many aspects of my course, main areas being design development, computer aided design, branding and promotion. I am also very interested in sustainability and think about this throughout all my projects I've undertaken this year. By taking the time to research and discover new and innovative ways to design, I have created interesting outcomes.

Throughout my degree, I have grown in confidence with my technical drawings and digital work, these areas I am now very passionate about and can now produce professional outcomes that are of a high standard. Going forward I would love to push these skills even further in an industry environment.

INSPIRATION

Modular design is an important process for sustainable manufacturing.

My aim is to reduce the need to consume. My brand ‘Create by Olivia’ contributes to sustainability by creating emotionally fuelled design, garments the consumer will want to wear for a long time. The garments can be customised to the consumers specific tastes and needs, and can be adapted should their needs change over time. My USP for my product range is detachability, which links to my concept idea taking inspiration from my grandma and her moving furniture about to create a new look.

For my product, I wanted to create a pack so the consumer can mix and match different elements, in turn reducing the need to purchase extra garments. I created a jacket and pair of trousers which will come with a pack of details to change up and style. I also used end of roll or scrap fabrics, that I can create something new with. My grandma gave me some scrap fabrics which give my products that personal feel.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

All work shown is from my final major project, Isko denim project and Vayyu competition.

My final major project focuses on my grandma's interiors and the ideas of identity and taste through the home. My grandma keeps her furniture for years because of its ability to be interchangeable into different rooms and still look new. Sustainability was at the core of this project, and so by creating modular fashion the consumer could change the garment up over time depending on needs and tastes. The denim project was inspired by Lady Diana and how she influenced the wearing of denim. My vayyu competition looked at being environmentally friendly, I looked to the Greenpeace campaigns and toxic textile dyeing.

"Modular fashion refers to clothing items that have detachable pieces, so that one can easily alter the clothing item to suit changing needs and tastes over time" The Fashion Studies Journal
