About Me

Hi, I’m Olivia a graduate from Nottingham Trent University.

I enjoy the experimentation that being a designer provides with the desire of reflecting my passion and creativity into my work through a variety of tactile processes which are frequently centred around my enthusiasm for colour and unusual mark-making.

My approach to design is focused upon exploring a new direction of menswear tailoring, elevating classic pieces through the use of vivid colour in luxurious knitted fabrics. I am passionate about creating contrast within my designs, through areas of intense pattern and unusual scale, both achievable through my confidence in using CAD and the Shima Apex Design system.

INSPIRATION

My initial idea began with inspiration from the iconic 1980’s show ‘Miami Vice’.

I wanted to create a collection which encompassed the mood of the vibrant visuals and exciting explosion of colour detectible within the show. Bright city lights and Miami night-life generate the colour palette for the collection as well as informing movement and fluidity within pattern.

Alongside the playful use of colour, 1980’s tailored garments were influential to the creation of my collection. My main focus is to update this classic menswear silhouette through the exaggeration of proportions as well as the inclusion of intense colour. I want to capture the crisp nature of menswear tailoring with a youthful and unexpected twist.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

The collection features a range of fine gauge garments produced using responsibly sourced yarns.

I am conscious of sustainability throughout my design process and found it important to practise responsible solutions during the production of my collection. My sponsorship from the Consinee Group allowed me to create a collection using responsibly sourced yarns which are produced in line with The Good Cashmere Standard. Most importantly, I have used a yarn consisting of BCI cotton and Tencel which is degradable. Not only are these fibres produced sustainably but its degradable nature brings into consideration the afterlife of my garments and their impact on the planet. Alongside the use of these yarns, it was important to consider sustainability within the manufacturing of the collection. This was integrated through fully fashioning garments, a method of production which considerably reduces waste in comparison to cut and sew.

I enjoy the experimentation that being a designer provides with the desire of reflecting my passion and creativity into my work through a variety of processes.
