About Me

Meet Nisat Selina a University Of East London graduate

Mine has always been a call to truth and justice. And above all to be the voice to those who could not speak for themselves. Thus, my life path with fashion is to create awareness and reach everyone around the world.

This is dedicated to the Uyghurs in China who have been tortured and segregated in “Re-education” camps. Since I am a Muslim too and a human being, I wanted to create awareness throughout my research and the final collection. Before knowing about the genocide that is happening right now in China for over 3 years, if not from 1970, I didn’t know about the existence of the Uyghurs.

INSPIRATION

The vanishing culture of Uyghurs

China has dismissed claims it is trying to reduce the Uighur population through mass sterilizations and says allegations of forced labor in cotton farms and manufacturing are "completely fabricated". Therefore, I wanted to create a collection based on historical cultures so that the world could know about the Uyghurs. my design is inspired by menswear from Uyghuristan for women’s wear. I wanted to bring the simplicity, elegance, refines, concept, from their tunic, clothes from their everyday life.

Therefore, my design started to be inside of circles that are the geometric shape of the cotton flower into a mosaic. My designs consist of taking basic shirts and tunic patten and place them inside of the circles, and from them modify them constantly to have many and many different outcomes.
