About Me

I'm Nicole, a Fashion Design graduate from Winchester School of Art

An imaginative and inquisitive womenswear designer, with a strong focus on silhouette and structure with a flair for streetwear and impeccable ability to work with colour. My collection explores the emotional toll of pursuing perfection, highlighting the importance of individual voice and authenticity, offering a joyful outlook on body image.

My aim as a designer is to create silhouettes with are visually stimulating and exciting for the catwalk, while being easily commercial pieces featuring fluorescent colours, sportswear elements which emphasise style, functionality, and comfort.

INSPIRATION

Inspired by Olivia Attwood's documentary “The Price of Perfection”

“Are you listening yet?” addresses the pressing issues young girls face in the digital age, with an underlying pressure from social media and influencers promoting a certain body shape and look, unwittingly promoting cosmetic surgery in order to alter their body for social media’s gaze. This collection highlights the importance of individual voice in an oppressive digital environment using bright colours and extreme silhouettes to bring a joyful outlook body image.

The collection explores the modern obsession with beauty standards and the profound impact of social media on self-worth. The documentary's in-depth interviews highlight the emotional and mental toll associated with the pursuit of perfection. This dynamic ensemble offers a visually striking commentary on contemporary beauty standards.

DETAIL

A nod to history...

A key detail I have used in my collection is lining all the bomber jackets in orange, resembling the MA-1 bomber first designed in 1949. The intended use of this bright lining was to wear the coat inside out if the plane crash landed in order to make the pilot more visible to rescuers.

"I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn't say any other way; things I had no words for." - Georgia O'Keeffe
