About Me

Hi, I'm Molly a Fashion Graduate from Arts University Bournemouth.

I am a fashion designer specialising in womenswear and conceptual design. Creating my designs through drape and collage. As a designer I love to work in larger scales, allowing me to create some big silhouettes, creating new shapes and forms within one garment.

Designing through drape wouldn't have been my first choice, however by exploring new ways of using this process throughout my collection, it has given me the chance to be really creative and create something new and different. This conceptual way of working has encouraged me to push my limits and be bold with my designs.

INSPIRATION

My final collection 'Zena', is inspired by my nana, focusing on her youth and heritage.

'Zena' is a womenswear, spring/summer occasion wear collection. My concept started with looking into my nana, Zena. She was born in the 1920s and this inspired my research into this era of fashion. Looking at influences of avant-garde, Art Deco and artist, Sonia Delaunay. She is my muse, using inspiration from her paintings which influenced my pattern cutting, silhouette and drape. As well as colour, with her artistic use of bold and bright palettes.

My collection is designed and pattern cut through conceptual cutting and drape. These were key processes I used throughout, as well as taking influences from classic 1920s fashion to create modern innovative garments. The materials used were lightweight, floaty and appropriate for each garment to be able react with movement, showing the whole design. Combining fibres, both natural and synthetic to add conscious elements to my collection.

DETAIL

Art Deco

Print was used to elevate my draped pieces. Using influence from classic Art Deco architectural shapes and patterns for my print design. Across my collection each motif was shown in different scales to create variation throughout. Using contrasting colours from my palette, to enhance the bold prints, combining this with screen print to add texture and depth to the garments.

Drape is limitless, allowing us to create innovative timeless pieces.
