About Me

Kingston Fashion Design Graduate, Specialising in Womenswear and Print

During my studies I found myself drawn to print and womenswear design, although I imagine my clothes to be worn by anyone who feels good in them. This interest in versatility is carried into my designs and creative ethos.

Recently I have worked with fabrication associated with activewear and loungewear, attempting to contest it's traditional use. By embracing and understanding the technical possibilities with stretch fabric, and by exploring how to make silhouettes adjustable to the wearer, my collection is one that can be worn in many ways. I have a keen graphic eye and enjoy designing prints that take on new and energetic forms when draped on the body. What I find most exciting as a young creative is that there is still so much to investigate and to learn.

INSPIRATION

Meaningful & Adaptable Design

My design research is often driven by the intricacies of human experiences and relationships. Not only does this area interest me but I hope that it results in designs that resonate with other people too. Facing an industry that engages in mass production, I find that making clothes that mean something to me and have the potential to mean something to someone else is an exciting and integral part of the practise.

My graduate collection explores the concept of performance, drawing inspiration from the world of dance and the iconic styles of Micheal Clark. With detachable straps, adjustable drapes and swinging silhouettes, each piece interprets the dynamic fluidity of dance and of one’s character.

DETAIL

Print and the Polka Dot

The use of polka dots pays homage to Clarke’s playful and vibrant story telling through his performance. Transformed into bold, modern prints, the polka dots cascade across garments evoking the collection’s theatrical nature. The polka dot is also reimagined across the 6 looks through cut-outs and silhouette. By exploring these I learned about specific construction and print techniques. Screen-printed by hand, the print demonstrates the kinetic energy of dance creating a wearable expression of artistic movement.
