Molly's final major project focuses on characters she imagined to be real during the recent national lockdowns. The series touches upon themes of grotesque and discomfort, as she conveys these characters with her own body.
I wanted this photo series to create an eerie experience and produce feelings of uneasiness in viewers. I felt the removal of identity and use of masks would enhance these feelings and generate unsettling emotions in anyone who decided to view it.
INSPIRATION
As an artist, I'm drawn to imagery that challenges the norm and ideas of what people consider to be 'beautiful.' I think over-elaborate and slightly bizarre subjects is what inspires me to create the work that I do. My project has been inspired by the likes of Cindy Sherman and Nadia Lee Cohen, as I find their pieces to be exciting and consuming. The aim for my final major project was to curate a series that really compelled people to observe it, but also made them feel uncomfortable when doing so.

DETAIL
The addition of a fish-eye lens really exaggerates this idea that the viewer is watching these characters in their rooms. It adds this voyeuristic element to the series and I think further emphasises feelings of discomfort and fear. I wanted to utilise the lens to create this perspective that the viewer is spying on these characters. The photos themselves force people to enter this viewpoint without warning and I think this gives me control to make them observe what ever I want them to.
