About Me

Hi, I'm Megan a Sportswear Design Graduate from Falmouth University

Megan is a sportswear designer who has a passion for creating functional yet fashionable modular sportswear for predominantly women, with a strong awareness of the need to be inclusive.

After studying at Falmouth University for the past three years Megan has discovered a huge lack for functional women's sportswear, designed to fit the female form. Which has fuelled her to take A highly functional approach towards women's paddle boarding gear. Her modular, problem solving solutions leaves the consumer with the ability to enjoy the sport and not be restricted by the garments.

INSPIRATION

Challenging Women's Sportswear

The Functional Collective exists to provide women with a practical alternative to paddle boarding gear. After extensive research it became apparent not a lot of women's sportswear has been designed specifically to fit the female form. More often than not Women's aquatic sportswear is tailored down from menswear or is highly sexualised.

For the design inspiration Megan has taken the part one 2021 film version of DUNE. In particular the desert planet of Arrakis. She has taken inspiration from the highly functional still suits which were intricately designed to fit each actor and its colour pallet which provides a range of natural tones which Megan loved and felt would provide her collection with a more high class feel.

DETAIL

FUNCTIONAL COLLECTIVE

This collection focuses on creating high quality women’s paddle boarding gear for a range of skill sets, from beginner to intermediate, advanced and pro. For each ability, Megan has designed two outfits, one for the summer and one for winter. Each with different design specifications based on the interviews carried out, with functionality always being at the fore front.

More often than not Women's aquatic sportswear is tailored down from menswear or is highly sexualised. The solution I have for this the Function Collective.
