About Me

I'm Megan, Cardiff School of Art and Design graduate in Fashion Design

My fashion designs are heavily influenced by the rural countryside of Cymru, which has engraved in me an inspiration for various aspects of nature and floral prints. The picturesque, enriched history and the serene environment of the countryside have always been a source of inspiration for my designs.

I have always been drawn to the beauty of nature, and I strive to bring that beauty into my fashion designs. Although I aim to leave my comfort zone while navigating my creative thinking, I often find that my biggest inspirations strive from the simplicity of nature, whether it’s through capturing a scenic photograph or wildflowers growing their roots. My designs are grounded in the natural world, yet they are also infused with a sense of modernity and sophistication. Whether it’s a flowing dress or a tailored jacket, I always gain inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounds us.

INSPIRATION

Ethereal Escapism- Seeing nature through a different lens

My idea, ‘Ethereal Escapism’, stems from the contradiction between my life in the city and my deep countryside heritage. I sought to create a harmonious blend of these two worlds. The dual experience of finding tranquility in the bustling urban environment and in the serene countryside has fueled my inspiration to discover elements of nature everywhere, even viewing them through a unique perspective.

Although it is difficult to compare the tranquillity of nature with the thrilling city, my work shows how I have embraced the balance between the two ways of life and declares how I have blossomed into young adulthood. I designed my own custom floral prints and the colour of my collection onto sheer fabric to convey the perspective of looking at nature through a different lens.

DETAIL

Custom Floral Prints

I designed and created all custom prints for my final collection utilizing the natural photography technique called ‘cyanotype’. My collection featured two cyanotype processes. The first technique involved painting the cyanotype directly onto cotton fabric, incorporating daffodils and wildflowers for natural floral prints. The second process entailed digitally enhancing and editing the colors and styles of a selection of cyanotype prints, which I then transformed into a repeat print for application on sheer fabrics.
