About Me

I’m Meg, a Fashion and Textiles graduate from Huddersfield University

My work focuses on intricately crafted textiles, specialising in hand beading. During my final year of study, I worked in industry, expanding and harnessing my handcrafting skills. I am keen to use artisan textiles to highlight the importance of slow fashion and its benefits for sustainability.

I was the first student to opt for the Live Industry Route, working alongside the brand Eden Keshia, who I worked for during placement year, instead of making my collection. Through the variety of projects I worked on, I was able to embrace slow fashion - from sustainability, to the limitless bounds of intricate techniques, it encompasses everything extraordinary about the fashion industry. I got to experience the process behind bespoke design and creative, innovative hand embellishments such as beading, and I intend to show others the limitless bounds of such intricate techniques.

INSPIRATION

For my main collection – inspiration started with two telescopes I inherited from my grandfathers.

As something my family are passionate about, it was inevitable that I developed a love for astronomy also. I wanted my inspiration to come from something that was meaningful to me, as not only do I enjoy the observational aspect of astronomy, I have always preferred working at night - I find myself able to be more creative at night – where I find peace and sense of tranquility in the stars. Putting these instruments centre stage was the driving force behind the collection.

I wanted to create something simplistically peaceful, paying homage to the sophisticated instruments have allowed us to see beyond our world and others, granted us the ability to map the stars and navigate the vast seas, as well as our solar system. From small domestic telescopes, to Brobdingnagian infrastructures, they are often over looked for the incredible sights they provide. These concepts combined with highlighting the need for more circularity within the industry, defined the collection.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

My niche – meticulous hand embellishments.

This past year, I have been able to refine my design identity, find my niche and improve my dexterity, alongside expanding my skills set beyond commercial womenswear. Working with Eden Keshia, I have worked heavily in the bespoke bridal market, as well as venturing into lingerie design and homeware concepts. The skill sets I have gained from working in these varied sectors of the industry, have been transferable between projects, allowing me to approached briefs I’m set from new angles and approaches. From my main collection work, which features intense bursts of hand beading, to my bridal briefs, with manipulating fabric into delicate, realistic petals and flowers, every project spot lights attention to detail and fastidious creative process. Although my design style is precise, to the point and focuses on intricate hand embellishment, I design, create and craft garments that encourage investments – both from producer and consumer – putting purpose at the centre above anything and everything else.

“There is something deeply satisfying in shaping something with your hands. Proper artificing is like a song made solid. It is an act of creation.” ― Patrick Rothfuss
