About Me

Hi! I'm Maya, a Fashion Design graduate from Nottingham Trent

I am a menswear designer with a passion for functional clothing.

After studying fashion for three years I feel as though my skills and understanding of the design process have developed hugely and I am eager to apply these skills within the industry. I am someone who is very interested in current events and politics, these are topics I like to focus on within my design work. As well as design I have a passion for styling and up-cycling, these skills have helped me build a platform on social media.

INSPIRATION

Two of Everything

‘people are involved in economic and industrial expansion which means fast motion of events and inventions with no time to linger and reflect and get shocked at the simultaneous process of dehumanization.’- Charlie Davoli. This is the quote that inspired my final project. I am interested in the way that economic and industrial expansion has made humans so obsessed with trying to control everything.

Today many of us live and work in cities, we spend most of our day inside four walls, living in routine that lasts for months, even years. We have become so disconnected from nature and what is natural for us. I wanted to focus on this within my designs. Within my research into control I looked into lab grown food, cloning and twins - which is where the title 'Two of Everything' came from.

Natural Lines and Shapes

Nature is the one thing that humans cannot truly control. I wanted to represent this within my designs. To do this I used naturally created lines and shapes from my primary and secondary research to inform design details such as pockets, seams and zips. Also, whilst creating my collection I was mindful that I wanted the garments to be interchangeable, as I hoped this would increase wear and longevity of wear, therefore increasing the sustainability of the collection. To do this I chose simple silhouettes and a muted colour palette.
