Mattney is passionate about the quality and fit of garments and expresses that through technical design. She is inspired by the environment so when designing she is always thinking of minimizing waste and being aware of materials used. She also has a collection where she creates one of a kind denim jackets called the Capsule Collective.
In 2019, she had the opportunity to study at Kent's NYC campus allowing her to gain real world experience in the heart of the fashion industry. Then she went on to study at the Florence, Italy campus and that gave her the opportunity to look at the fashion industry from another prospective.
The first project you will see is slides 1-9, I pulled pieces of the case study I did on how our clothing could correct out posture, especially in Gen Z. I think there is a huge connection here as the way that fabrics are made continue to become more advanced helping us correct things like bad posture and other health concerns by doing everyday things. This project is inspired by athleisure, if we are going to be helping correct posture we would want you to be comfortable while doing it.
The next projects you will see focus on women's ready to wear. Pages 10-15 are inspired by denim, I believe denim is something that so many people feel confident in. I wanted to create a collection of denim that was different than what we always see and made of more sustainable options. The second collection pages 15-20 was inspired by the idea of looking at your old clothing in a circular way. The project as a whole looks into what it would look like if there was a program to recreate your old clothing.
All jackets are 95% sustainable, I take old worn jeans and piece them together in an interesting way to create one of a kind jackets. This is one of my ways of incorporating sustainability into my designs, by making old pieces new again and not creating more waste but instead utilizing what we already have and giving it a modern twist. .
