About Me

I am Matt from Newport, South Wales and this is me..

Growing up in just outside of Newport I have always loved fashion and it wasn't until I applied for the course that I am now graduating that I realised just how much I loved it. I am an aspiring stylist and creative director and specialise in conceptual photography and fashion. I think fashion is an art and with that in mind you could call me a concept artist

I am very passionate about sustainability and for my FMP I made a magazine focussed on sustainable fashion and music called ANIAN which means nature in Welsh. In my spare time I like to watch football as I am a big Cardiff City fan and I also am learning to play the guitar and learning to skate so will be carrying on learning after University. I also have a love for film photography.

INSPIRATION

What is Behind my Creative Identity...

My main inspirations are music, skate culture, art and nature. I have been obsessed with skate culture ever since I played 'Tony Hawk Pro Skater' and I always pull from skate culture for my creative vision. With art I went to museums all the time when I was younger and i used to go frequently when they were open, I have always had a fascination with art. I was always around nature as a child and just think nature is the most beautiful thing in the world. If you are Welsh, you just have to love nature.

Music is one of my biggest loves apart from fashion, I love Punk, Alternative and Indie music. My favourite bands being Radiohead, Blink 182 and The Cure. I draw inspiration from the Punk attitude as they just didn't care about anything and wanted to rebel. The musician who had the most influence on me though was Tyler, the Creator who introduced me to Supreme when I was 13 and that's when I completely became obsessed with streetwear and fashion as a whole.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Let me explain what you just saw..

For the Langland Bay shoot I wanted to shoot on this location as it is the first place where skaters appeared in Wales and as a massive fan of skate culture, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to shoot there. I found a model through a University group on Facebook and borrowed my clothes from the amazing Flamingos Vintage in Cardiff. I took these photos, all of them, on my film camera a Nikon F90X. I also did all the styling a creative direction for these shoots. These photos were for my magazine that I did for my FMP, ANIAN and the first 14 were from the official shoot with the last 6 being of my girlfriend in Bath that I did to test out my camera, but I love those 6 photos so much that I had to include them. I wanted to portray a sense of fragility in the images as to represent the fragility of our earth. I love these photos so much and can’t wait to do more film photography and shoots on the side after University.

Matt wanted to engage people in the conversation around sustainability in fashion in a visually striking way.
