About Me

Balancing ones creative expression whilst satisfying a client is vital

Maheen created these images for her Independent Final Project at University. These images were in collaboration with a vintage clothing brand and model Lauren Talbot. The aim of these images were to communicate the brand's core values of playfulness, sustainability, fashion and non conformity.

With a keen eye for detail and trends (usually before they surface), Maheen enjoys direction and styling the most. However throughout her Fashion Branding and Communications course and her internships at London Fashion Week and for various business', she has also picked up a variety of skills. These have been across marketing, production and buying. Maheen would describe herself as a versatile, creative and diligent individual.

INSPIRATION

Vintage doesn't have to be drab

After interning for Vintage brand Area Eighteen, I was in awe of how they supplied high quality, sustainable garments but had a largely young target audience. Although the brand had a consistent Instagram theme, they hadn't yet produced a campaign that could be used all year round as general brand imagery. After thorough research into the brand's audience, tone, vision and core values I came up with these series of images, in hopes that it could be used on different platforms to increase brand awareness.

Exercising ones creative abilities whilst satisfying a brand's CEO is a task that I learnt to balance. It wasn't easy organising a shoot in the middle of a pandemic, however I used the resources I had. I couldn't shoot in locations or collaborate with a makeup artist as originally planned, but I used a fish eye lens and purposefully directed poses to bring excitement and youthfulness to what would be a basic studio shoot. I was heavily inspired by photographers Alexandre Desmidt and Courtney Paul.

DETAIL

I was inspired by Courtney Paul's playful photography

During my research process I collated thorough information on the brand's target audience and I summarised their style aesthetics into 4 main categories. These categories being: Introverted, extroverted, grunge and free spirit. I did my best to include all these style aesthetics within the shoot so these images would catch the eye of a versatile crowd. For promotional material I added warped text that reflected the brand's tone and common sayings of the owner Thomas Evans. These slogans were cheeky, empowering and humorous. I received great feedback from the CEO and my tutors in response to my project, and I am excited to continue directing shoots in the future and further expand my industry experience.
