Madiy is a creative that specialises in digital and social media marketing for the fashion, beauty and wellness industries. During her three years at university, she developed an unrivalled passion for sustainability that became a core part of her life, through to every one of her final year projects.
"With events like COP26 putting climate change at the forefront of conversation, I couldn't ignore the intrinsic link its has to all areas of my life. My growing passion for the issue caused me to spend a huge amount of time reading and learning as much as I could about this ever growing subject. My research was targeted towards the fashion and beauty industries and led me to write my dissertation looking at 'The consideration of the phenomenon of hyper-consumption within the fashion industry.'"
INSPIRATION
The clothes we wear are often the first way that we get to express ourselves without saying a word. The evolution of this industry into the 52 seasons, daily releases and frantic sales we see today are a far cry from where clothing started out. Trying to unlearn some of these behaviours can seem like a mammoth task when for lots of us, it's all we know. There is also a fear that when it comes to implementing sustainably behaviours into our wardrobes, we have to give up everything we have ever loved.
However, this is certainly not the case and, from personal experience, I am more in love with my wardrobe and style now than I ever have been. I have noticed that a key reason for making the first steps to a more sustainable wardrobe is lack of knowledge about where to start. I think it's so important for young people to be learning about the importance of sustainability within the fashion and beauty industries as education and awareness are key to change, and this is how 'Ethical Wardrobe' was born.
DETAIL
Although this started off as a university Final Major Project outcome, my passion for learning and educating others about how to be more sustainable within the fashion industry, has led me to continue using this account for that purpose. The video shows a breakdown using Instagram analytical data to see how the account is performing. The stat I am most proud of is over 23,000 impressions over the last 30 days. For an account with under 300 followers, this is a huge achievement and gives me the the motivation to continue with the hope of seeing the account grow significantly in the future as time progresses.
