About Me

Hi. I'm Lucy a Fashion Promotion student at UCLan

My passion is interiors, and my aspiration is to help shape this industry into being as sustainable as possible. During my time at UCLan, I have learned how to work with 2D software. I am now starting to learn how to use 3D software and I am very excited to develop my knowledge in this.

I've always had a passion for business and product design. In my second year at University, I found my passion for interiors and sustainability which I show through my work. Consumer habits changed during the pandemic and I saw an opportunity to create something that encourages conscious consumption of furniture.

INSPIRATION

Luxury Secondhand

When I started my final project I began looking at how people were now buying and consuming things. I have seen a growth in the market for secondhand. There's Depop to buy secondhand clothes, Facebook Marketplace a platform where you can buy secondhand furniture, and then I came across Vestiaire Collective which sells secondhand designer clothes in an official way.

I wanted to create a platform where people can buy pre-owned luxury furniture that doesn't feel like they are buying secondhand furniture. The inspiration for my campaign came from a quote my friend said to me. "A champagne lifestyle of a lemonade budget". So, my campaign is about this luxury furniture that comes with this lifestyle but for a more reachable price.

Vestiaire Collective Home

Throughout the pandemic there was an increase in sales for fast homeware and furniture. As it is trend led it is short term. However, “By the second fast homeware wave, consumers had already started to care more about the sustainability aspect of things”- Allyson Rees WGSN. To fill this need of more conscious consumption I designed the concept Vestiaire Collective Home which is the resale of second-hand luxury and vintage furniture. Vestiaire Collective Home is a brand extension for Vestiaire Collective who sell second-hand designer clothes. This allows customer to shop luxury and sustainable furniture at a more reachable price. The plan proposed at the early stages is for it to only be furniture. This to test how successful it will be and if successful it will be extended into home décor and art. It will also only be available to people who live in the London area and will be expanded to the rest of UK once the concept has taken interest.
