About Me

Hi, I'm Lizzie, A UWE Fashion Communication graduate based in London

I am an art director and photographer focused on exploring themes of identity, subcultures and self expression.

Working with photography, I use a combination of physical and digital post production techniques including collage, printing, scanning, handwriting and illustration. My work is bold and experimental, referencing my fine art background by using expression, while still being presented in a refined way which compliments fashion image and photography. My ambitions are focused on exploring personal editorial and print projects, as well as digital content creation alongside brands and practitioners who align with my inspirations and values.

INSPIRATION

I'm inspired by the relationship between music, fashion and design within subcultures.

The punk and grunge movements specifically have both been very influential to the visual style which I have developed. Both of which developed anti-fashion ideologies. The careless and chaotic collage style of punk fanzines from the late 70s have been a constant reference point of mine during research.

Looking at these fanzines, including Sniffin' glue and Ripped & Torn, my work pushes outside the boundaries and guides- using initiative and experimentation to create layouts which display my creative vision. I’m also very inspired by the textural and dark imagery connected to the grunge subculture and how fashion styles developed during and after the initial emergence of the movement. This has influenced a lot of my photography work, which embraces texture and noise.

People Like Us

People Like Us is a documentation of style, identity and subcultural influence in 2022. The publication and short documentary focus on street cast individuals who stand out for their unique appearances and visual expressions of identity. Through physical and digital post production processes, I developed a visual style for the project- inspired by the effects of bleach when personalising garments. This short documentary explores these themes further through showcasing with three individuals who use music and fashion as a form of expression.
