About Me

Hi, I'm Liv a fashion and textiles graduate from Bristol

Liv enjoys experimenting with large silhouettes and bold prints to create playful and eccentric garments and textiles. She enjoys using mixed media and illustration to create conceptual and ambitious designs.

Over the last year I have really begun to understand my own design process and have really enjoyed finding out what works well for me. I love using vintage references throughout my work and they are always a starting point for me during the initial stages of a project. I love that I am able to use my primary research to create zines and publications translating my work into a more digital sense. Moreover, by using mixed medias and collage to generate ideas it has pushed me to look past the contours of the body and into more extravagant garment and textile designs.

INSPIRATION

‘Sweet heart, grow up’ toys with excessive garishness and people’s idea of taste.

Sweetheart, grow up is a garment and textile collection and a project which focuses heavily on the topic of mine and other peoples nostalgia and connection. It’s a fun and humorous collection which explores people's idea of taste and themes related to links with objects, heirlooms, and music. This project is a fun and light-hearted ode to more kitsch and novelty objects while toying with people’s ideas of excessive garishness, while also keeping a connection to the sentimentality of what people hold dear.

The starting point for this project came from a selection of photos I took while I was and my nans house, I love that she’s kept everything and nothing in the house has changed my entire life. This led me on to think about how humans collect things and keep things that they feel a connection for. Following on with a main theme of memories; the textile collection was inspired by anonymous submissions of people nostalgic songs which then informed the pinstripe and check textile collection.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I have been using rug punching as a way to create vivid and tactile textile samples.

Over the last year I have been teaching myself and developing my skills in rug punching. About 8 months ago I invested in a rug punching gun and have been including this into my work wherever I can as it has given me the chance to develop my skills and understanding of rug punching. This skill I have developed is so adaptable and something I have been thoroughly enjoying! The products using this rug punching technique are very versatile and I have been experimenting with the development of accessories and homeware. By using this skill, I have been able to combine my love of illustration and textiles into something not normally associated with fashion. This skill has meant I have been able to create some brilliant outcomes using vivid imagery and colours to create professional and thoughtful outcomes.

I have relished in my work this year and I hope I've shown how much enjoyment I’ve had creating through my work and hope this brings it all to life.
