About Me

Hi, I´m Lisa from Germany. A graduate from University of Huddersfield.

The starting point for the inspiration of my collection is the film "The Royal Tenenbaums" by Wes Anderson. For me, Anderson is one of the most interesting movie directors because his films often contain political or ethical lessons for the viewer.

The quirky main characters are characterized by breakdowns and mental illness. The movie is about a broken family, broken hearts and childhood trauma. All of these topics are commonplace and are often kept dead by society, that´s why I used this film as an inspiration for my fashion collection. I see my fashion as a kind of art that I want to use to express political, social and economic issues to make the viewer think about those themes.

INSPIRATION

MY INITIAL IDEA STARTED FROM A PREVOUS PROJECT I MADE ABOUT FILM DIRECTOR WES ANDERSON...

During my research, I analyzed the plot of the film. I have been inspired by the colour concept of the movie and the main characters have influenced my design and research ideas. The clothes of the main characters communicate a childhood trauma, as they wear the same clothes as adults as they did 20 years earlier when they were children. They are looking for their childhood and holding on to it in an adult age. I want to express the aspect of the INNER CHILD in the shell of an adult´s body.

On the other side, I want to express the adult in the shell of a child´s body. This is where my silhouettes came from. Sporty details and fabrics are combined with chic, couturelike pattern cutting. Shrunken silhouettes opposed to wide fitted garments. To create a unique look for the collection `ROYAL` - s/s2021/22, I united an avantgarde aesthetic with a rather sporty style. To express childlike and adultlike aspects, there is a mix of tailored very wearable pieces, sporty garments and avantgarde pieces.

THE CHOICE OF FABRICS AND COLOUR ARE DECISIVE FOR THE AESTHETICS OF MY COLLECTION

My self- developed textiles are also inspired by the film and underline the quirky look of the outfits. I used many sets and screenshots of the movie to inspire my textiles. Andersons films provoke ambivalent emotions in spectators, that´s what I intend to do with my textiles. I analyzed the movie deep in its content and scenes. Items from the childhood are fetishisically retained in the movie. I wanted to create looks that can be worn in everyday life like sporty garments. And on the other hand, I wanted to make avantgarde high-fashion pieces. My textiles should underpin these aspects and make these two aesthetics stand out. I used different materials, such as deadstock fabrics, off cuts of acrylic glass and nylon mesh tubing that is normally used for jewellery, to create my textiles and these unique details in my outfits. I also designed and made some accessories for this collection, such as glasses and bags to further support the style of my collection.

The children are children (sometimes wiser than the adults), and the adults are younger children still, babies really, who surround themselves with glittery collections that operate as fetishes..
