Lilly Doherty is a creative from the south of England specialising in print and leather processes. Her affinity for female representation encourages content designed to liberate women and embrace femininity.
Over time I’ve grown impassioned about the reclamation of feminine sexuality and women taking control of their narrative by reimagining what is sexy by their own definition. Growing up idolising women in British pop culture, I found myself taking inspiration from the likes of Katie price, Daniella Westbrook and hyper feminine video vixens and their use of ironically tacky garments and prints.
INSPIRATION
My work aims to capture the common denominator between expensive, luxurious fashion and trashy, tacky, bimbo core through the use of print, styling and fabrication. I am drawn to using elements such as leopard print and gold embellishment which again, subject to the beholder and their perception, have connotations to both lower and upper classes.
In producing my final collection I began with research garments I attained from my grandfather, a multiple time national champion sidecar racer. In combining my established design aesthetic with the racing leathers, I produced a final collection quintessentially my taste incorporating various print processes and leather and fur construction.
DETAIL
In keeping with feminine sexuality, lingerie is something I’ve always had a connection with. As someone who requires support as well as sexiness in underwear, I’m well versed in fabrication and what I want and need in a garment. One piece I am particularly drawn to is the garter. Something about a lingerie item that is teasingly on show yet still classy intrigues me, which is why I wanted to incorporate this feature as whole garments and garment trims.
