INSPIRATION
The inspiration for my FMP focuses in on adventure and its benefits on mental health. The idea stemmed from lockdown 2020, when we were all trapped inside. I realised from reading into the affects of lockdown that there was an increase of escapism through binge watching, playing video games and not being present. This led me to the book ‘Adventure revolution’ which explains how adventures big or small can help reconnect us to nature and helps us with our mental wellbeing for a positive escapism.
Influenced by the benefits that nature has on our mental and physical wellbeing, I created a print using natural dyes giving a direct but subtle connection. As my concept is heavily involved around mental health I wanted to create comfortable and easy to wear clothing so I focused on creating a capsule wardrobe by elevating staples. I wanted to combine the functional elements needed within travel with everyday items making it easy for the working woman to partake in more activities.
DETAIL
Considering the wellbeing of my consumers I aim to make sure longevity is at the forefront of my designs, promoting sustainability - not fast fashion. Working in hand with a capsule collection that is wearable and functional for everyday activities and easy to style. I worked on creating multifunctional and transformable pieces so the wearer gets more out of their purchases and buys less in the future. My collection showcases 10 interchangeable pieces that can be styled in over 20 different ways, each piece compliments the other in order to cater to the wearers desires and location. From my research learning how to cope with mental health issues I wanted to incorporate ways within the garments that can help the wearer through stressful situations. Within my garments you will find pockets with mindfulness cards, to help bring one back to a positive state. I've incorporated a felt pad and fragrance oil located near the nose that gives off a scent with calming benefits which also helps reduce blood pressure.
