About Me

I am Liam, studying Fashion Design based Cambridge

I first became interested in fashion when I was 9 years old, I was a keen skateboarder, and this led me into skateboarding fashion.

The clothing was not only stylish, it ensured you could move in clothes and skate! My interest was more in subculture, and I bought my first Parker, adding different patches and my style. I particularly liked Pretty Green. The influence came from listening to The Beatles, Oasis and Blink 182. The subculture had a big impact, leading to me later becoming a Punk, making my own clothes, and revamping clothes through creating prints on jackets. I bought a biker jacket to become a statement piece to my individual style -painting it, adding studs, patches, and using slogans to express myself.

INSPIRATION

1880s 1980s mix-up

The inspiration for my concept come from an article on female Victorian Serial Killers and the fashion for 1980’s power dressing, combining the use of different colours and OVER THE TOP shoulders. As I moved into my design work I found my main focus was much more on movement and shape, making it bolder to play with and manipulate SIZE. FUN still plays a big part in my work through colour and patterns.

I have looked at different artist’s styles such as Salvador Dali, art styles from Japan, and the “Blitz Kids” such as new romantics like Marilyn and Adam and the Ants, alongside parts of the MOD scene. This created a maelstrom of diverse and eclectic influences. I still wanted to include the straight jacket influence from the 1800’s Asylums and tried to implement this into my designs. The 1800’s and 1980’s combined to create a crazy outlook evident in along Victorian style skirt.
